Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 System Administration Part 1

The intended audience for this class consists of computer users who will be required to administer one or more RHEL6, Oracle Linux, CentOS 6 or Fedora systems.

Prerequisites

No previous experience with a UNIX or Linux system is required, although delegates will benefit from having attending our UNIX & Linux Essentials course.

Course Objectives

Linux is rapidly finding its way into business, education and government. Due to its outstanding reliability, performance and low cost, Linux is being used extensively for file, database and web server applications. Of all the various Linux systems available, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) has become the corporate Linux standard.

The Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 System Administration Part 1 course is aimed at users who have a requirement to manage Enterprise Linux systems, not just RHEL but also any of the rebuild projects like CentOS and Scientific Linux.

This course assumes the delegate has no prior knowledge of a UNIX or Linux system and therefore starts from the basics. The course then moves on to show delegates how to manage their Enterprise Linux systems, including;  adding and managing user accounts, installing software and hardware, accessing disk devices, booting up and shutting down the systems.

At the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the history of Unix and Linux.
  • Log-in and log-out of the system.
  • Use of the Gnome Desktop and tools.
  • Navigate the file system.
  • List files and directories.
  • Set ownership's and permissions.
  • Manipulate files and directories.
  • View files.
  • Use filters and pipes.
  • Use wildcards, meta-characters & regular expressions.
  • Use the vi editor for basic editing.
  • Install Enterprise Linux from DVD.
  • Boot up & shutdown Enterprise Linux and understand the boot process.
  • Administer the Linux file system & create basic disks partitions.
  • Add software & packages.
  • Add, delete and manage users.
  • Perform basic network configuration.
  • Add, delete & manage the print system.
  • Perform batch processing tasks.
  • Access remote systems using SSH.
