Course Objectives

The Web has been with us since 1990 and web application development and testing has matured as more organisations have incorporated online trading or information dissemination as part of their business models.  However, the proliferation in the use of mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones has increased the number of combinations of hardware and software platforms a Web tester has to take into account.  Additionally, development innovations such as responsive design, geolocation, audio and video, etc., allied with the ever-reducing response times expected by users has demanded a more thorough and wide-ranging set of tests to be executed.  Finally, the technical knowledge expected of testers - especially in an agile development environment - has increased by an order of magnitude.

This course seeks to help testers and test managers make informed decisions regarding testing which includes mobile devices.  The course scope focuses on functional and non-functional testing so that, at the end of the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the challenges associated with testing for mobile devices.
  • Communicate with network administrators regarding the different kinds of networks in modern use and their individual characteristics.
  • Select an appropriate test strategy and test environment.
  • Carry out effective and efficient functional testing.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of usability, user experience and how to perform usability testing for mobile devices.
  • Specify the requirements for various types of performance testing.
