Course Content

SQL is the preferred facility for maintaining and manipulating the DB2 for i relational
database. Although DDS has been a reliable tool for data definition and data access,
it has not evolved in recent years to serve new business requirements. The SQL
language should be considered because:
• It is a widely used standard; skills are more readily available.
• It provides more and better options with which to access the database.
• IBM investment for database access and performance is focussed on SQL.
• Some database capabilities, (e.g. LOB support) are only available with SQL.
This practical Workshop will provide an introduction to the SQL language and the
various IBM i tools provided.
