subsequent data manipulation.

• Understand the concepts and philosophy of the RDi/Eclipse platform
• Customise the RDi workbench to suit personal work preferences
• Create and manage IBM i server objects using Remote System Explorer

• Complete the code / compile / test program cycle without 5250 "green-
screen"

• Debug programs using graphical tools

Course Content

To be blunt, the ADTS programming tools, (PDM, SEU, etc.) are a dead-end. IBM is
not enhancing traditional "green-screen" utilities and stated as much in its
Announcement Letter, (214-129, 28/4/2014).
It is recommended that use of ADTS be discontinued and that Rational Developer for i [RDi],
a modern graphical Integrated Development Environment (IDE), be adopted.
Based on the open-source Eclipse platform, (the tool of choice for Java
programmers) RDi brings many of the productivity benefits - and all of the fun - back
to IBM i applications development. Modern tools for application modernisation.
This practical Workshop will enable IBM i developers to revitalise and update their
skills for the design, development and support of IBM i applications.
