SMS Implementation and Control |
|
| SUMMARY: |
Suitable for the BCS Mainframe Technology professional Exams for level 2 Engineer (Data Storage) |
| AUDIENCE: |
This course is intended for all those who may be concerned with planning for, implementing, or managing system-managed storage in an installation. As such it is suitable for System Programmers, Storage Administrators and all those who share with them the management of the installation's data. |
| PREREQUISITES: |
Delegates should already have attended our z/OS for Beginners and Storage Management Fundamentals courses or have a similar level of knowledge or experience. |
| DURATION: |
3 days. Hands on. |
| OBJECTIVES: |
This course will enable the participant to take full control of an SMS implementation project within their installation, and/or be able to maintain a running SMS installation to best effect. It concentrates on the system management of data stored on DASD.
On completion of this course the delegate will be able to:
· List the areas in which DFSMS/MVS benefits the installation.
· Explain the overall concept of system-managed storage.
· List the control data sets required for DFSMS/MVS
· List the SMS constructs and their purpose
· List the members of SYS1.PARMLIB related to system-managed storage.
· Create an Implementation Planning document for DFSMS/MVS.
· Create the control data sets and populate the Source Control Data Set with: Data Classes, Storage Classes, Management Classes, Storage Groups.
· Plan and code automatic class selection routines to implement the installation’s data management policies.
· Bring about the initialisation of SMS both manually and automatically.
· Control the SMS address space and working environment by means of system commands.
· Explain the benefits of:
Concurrent Copy, Sequential Data Striping, Dynamic Cache Management Enhanced. |
