This course is for WebSphere support staff, that need a more detailed understanding of installing, configuring and supporting WebSphere Application Server v5 |
| PREREQUISITES: |
A good understanding of Internet concepts, including HTML, HTTP and SSL. Experience in HTTP server administration (IBM HTTP Server, Apache or IIS) and WebSphere Application Server v5 administration. Candidates should have ideally attended a previous WebSphere v5 installation, configuration and maintenance course. |

This course will enable WebSphere support staff to gain a more detailed understanding of WebSphere Application Server installation, configuration and support. |
| COURSE CONTENT: |
Day 1 Overview of WebSphere software platform and specifically WebSphere Application Server WebSphere Application Server editions and versions, including J2EE specifications supported IBM support policy for WebSphere Application Server and strategy for delivering updates (Fix pack, Cumulative fix, eFix) Review of WebSphere Application Server components (HTTP server, WebSphere plugin, J2EE containers, Deployment manager, Node agents, Admin GUI, wsadmin) Describe how WebSphere Application Server utilises JMX WebSphere Application Server installation prerequisites Install WebSphere Application Server Base edition Apply maintenance using update installer (GUI and silent) Install sample application using the Admin GUI and wsadmin Discuss limitations of WebSphere Application Server Base edition and how they might be overcome
Day 2 Install WebSphere Application Server ND edition and federate a node using the Admin GUI and addNode command Explore WebSphere Application Server command line tools More on wsadmin scripting TCP/IP ports used by WebSphere Application Server and Firewall / DMZ implications Naming in WebSphere Application Server v5 Session persistence options and configuration (Database, DRS) Asynchronous messaging and integration with WebSphere MQ
Day 3 J2C in WebSphere Application Server All you ever wanted to know about the WebSphere plugin Application packaging and best practise Introduction to the AAT and ASTK ANT and wsadmin ANT tasks for automation of build and deployment Understanding classloaders and how they are implemented in WebSphere Application Server (including tools to help resolve classloader problems) Caching in WebSphere Application Server
